Artistic Singing Comes From Within

What makes a great singer is her ability to connect with and impart to the audience the emotional content of a song. There are many artists who over-sing to TRY to add to the emotional content of the song, but this sounds forced and inauthentic. You must relate to your own experiences when you sing. If you are singing about heartbreak, drawing on your own experiences should give your interpretations a special power. Emotional singing comes from your experiences, so be courageous and try to live your life as though you are gathering emotional fuel to fire up your singing. Sometimes singers become so caught up in vocal technique that they lose sight of the heart of singing, which is singing from the heart. You must nurture the spirit of music by living passionately in the here and now.
