Perfection's Lovers

Creators of art and truth seekers of every kind have a deep and abiding sense of it: they are driven by it, seduced by it, and struggle to realize its nature—perfection! And what is perfection? "Embodied beauty." More particularly, "perfection is the form of what is beautiful as presented directly to the senses or to the mind." But at least some degree or aspect of perfection can be glimpsed by every conscious human at various moments during his or her early sojourn - perhaps in this vista or that face, piece of music, or "blissful" insight.
Those who are "caught-up" in the pursuit of perfection, as their "reason for being," however, have a qualitatively different experience of perfection, because they literally are active participants in its actualization. Hence, as is often noted, the artist and the philosopher "live in" another world—a world in which pure light and consuming darkness battle for supremacy, but where creative outpouring is the ultimate victor. It is a world that may seem alien, even strange to the rest of us, but to those obsessed lovers of what is beautiful, of what is perfect, is home-sweet-home.
